Terms of Use

Effective July 7, 2026

Sessions is a local-first app for recording and keeping conversations with a therapist, coach, mentor, counselor, or psychologist. Because your recordings live on your device and not on a server we control, these terms are short. They cover what you can expect from the app, what you’re responsible for, and the honest limits of what a tool like this can promise. Using Sessions means you agree to them.

Who can use Sessions

You must be old enough to form a binding agreement where you live — at least 13, and 18 or the age of majority if you record conversations that involve consent from another person. Sessions is not directed at children under 13. Use the app only in ways that are legal where you are.

What Sessions is — and isn’t

Sessions is a recording, transcription, and note-keeping tool. It is not a medical device, not therapy, not medical or mental-health advice, and not a substitute for professional care. On-device transcription and any AI-generated notes are approximations: they can mishear words, miss nuance, and get things wrong. Read them as a helpful record, not as an authoritative account, and never rely on them for decisions where accuracy is critical.

Recording other people is your responsibility

Laws about recording conversations vary by region, and many places require the consent of everyone being recorded. You are solely responsible for knowing and following the law that applies to you, and for getting whatever consent is required from your practitioner or anyone else in the conversation. The app asks you to confirm this before your first recording, but that confirmation does not shift the responsibility from you to us. Do not use Sessions to record anyone unlawfully, covertly, or without the consent the law requires.

Your content is yours

Your recordings, transcripts, notes, and reflections belong to you. Because they live in the app’s private storage on your device — and, if you turn on backup, only as ciphertext we cannot read — we claim no ownership of them and no license to use them. What lives where, and the narrow things that can leave your device, is spelled out in the privacy policy.

Bring-your-own OpenAI key

Turning a transcript into structured notes is optional and uses OpenAI’s API with an API key you supply. When you use that feature, transcript text is sent from your phone directly to OpenAI under your own account, and your use of OpenAI is governed by OpenAI’s terms and policies. You are responsible for your key, for any charges OpenAI bills to your account, and for keeping the key confidential. We run no server in the middle and never see your key or your transcripts.

Acceptable use

Don’t use Sessions to break the law, to record people without the consent the law requires, to infringe someone else’s rights, or to attempt to reverse-engineer, disrupt, or misuse the app or any backup service beyond what these terms and the law allow.

The app is provided “as is”

Sessions is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We don’t promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that transcripts and notes will be accurate. Recordings that live only on your device can be lost if the device is lost, damaged, reset, or the app is uninstalled — see the privacy policy for how backups and phone migrations work. Keep your own copies of anything you can’t afford to lose.

Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Sessions and its makers are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost recordings, transcripts, or notes, arising from your use of the app. Some places don’t allow certain limits, so parts of this may not apply to you.

Changes to the app and these terms

We may update, change, or discontinue features of Sessions, and we may revise these terms — for example, if we add an optional service for people who don’t want to bring their own API key. When we do, this page changes with the effective date above updated. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised terms.
